Warwick Castle

How could I be writing a musical based on Dodie Smith’s I Capture the Castle and not have a day at Warwick Castle!!  It was a rather surreal day, set to the soundtrack of the Merlin TV series and filled with a cast of wax characters, who were supposed to be showing me how the castle worked hundreds of years ago.Image

It is a really spectacular castle, far bigger than Godsend Castle, but really helped to summon up what it must have been like for Cassandra to live in a place like that.

I was very excited to discover that the mott and bailey mound in the grounds is just like the mound   in Dodie’s story and above I have included a picture of it.  At Godsend there was only one tower left on theirs.

Godsend would surely also have Arrow Loops where the archers had once stood.
